Motorcycle Transports to Chile
general Information
Packaging
For transports to Chile, the motorcycle must be packed in one case. Just talk to your local motorcycle dealer - they are often happy when the overpack of new vehicles can be disposed free of charge. Best try your luck at one of the dealers of Italian or Japanese manufacturers. Although many brands have already converted to returnable packing, you should give it a try! You will save hard cash if you keep your box as small as possible, e.g. by removing the front wheel.
Alternatively, packaging can take place via an enterprise in Hamburg determined by us. Please note that transportation costs are higher in this case, since – due to liability reasons - no parts of the motorcycle may be removed and thus the packaging will be more spacious.
Further package can be stowed unless hazardous substances according to aviation regulations are involved (e.g. batteries/accumulators, methylated spirits, motor oil, aerosols).
Our prices are calculated individually, so please inform us about length, width and height (please remove mirror!) as well as weight. Primarily, volume matters! The smaller the box, the cheaper the transportation costs!
Transport to Chile
It is possible to transport your motorcycle via air freight or via ship. Potential destinations are Santiago, Valparaiso and Punta Arenas. You also have the option to book just a one-way transport or a multi-stop transport as well as: outbound trip via plane and return trip via ship or vice versa. The approximate duration of transport will be 7 days via airplane or 5 weeks via ship, to Punta Arenas 7-8 weeks.
It is possible to retrieve your ready packed transport box via truck featuring lift and pallet cart at your premises.
Return Transport
Return transport can be effected via plane or ship. You have the option to book just a one-way transport. In this case, our partner takes care of the organisation of packaging at the port of destination. The approximate duration of transport will be 7 days via airplane or 7 weeks via ship.
It is possible to deliver your motorcycle in a transport box via truck featuring lift and pallet cart to your premises.
At the Destination (in Case of a one-way Transport)
Please contact the local representation of your airline or shipping company after your arrival. After payment of local fees, customs clearance will be effected. Now you just need to unpack your motorcycle and off you go! The approximate time duration at the airport comes to 1 day. You can leave your empty box there. Of course, this process can be booked additionally and handled at the destination along with our partner at customer´s expense.
At the Destination (in Case of both Transports)
For a joint customs clearance, please contact our local partner after your arrival. Now you just need to unpack your motorcycle and off you go! The approximate time duration comes to 1 day. The empty box will be stored by our correspondent. Please contact our forwarding agent a few days prior to return transport and coordinate your vehicle´s drop off. Upon completion of your vacation and customs clearance, your motorcycle will be repacked into the box. Anything else will be organised by us here in Hamburg or by our partner at the destination.
Customs
To our knowledge, a so-called Carnet de Passage is not mandatory for the whole of South America. For a binding information concerning final import of vehicles, please be addressed to the automobile club or the customs authorities at the destination.
Contract and Payment
When you are ready to purchase, we will prepare a forwarding contract. Please return with your signature. A first partial billing of transport will be effected close to collection/handing over of your motorcycle, we do not charge any deposit when the contract is concluded!
Transport Insurance
As an option, we offer a transport insurance against total loss and transport damage of your motorcycle. The premium amounts to 0.95% of the vehicle value, at least € 95.00. Paint damages and oxidation are excluded, vehicles older than 9 years are insurable against total loss only.
Please note that additional luggage stowed in the transport box is uninsurable. We recommend to inform yourself about a traveller´s baggage insurance. In case of damage, it must be visible from outside. Retention comes to € 500.00 per claim.
Prices
The costs for air freight are based on the height of the transport box and account for approx. € 5,000.00 for a standard touring enduro from diverse airports in Germany to Santiago and retour. For maritime transport, please calculate approx. € 2,500.00 to Valparaiso and retour.
The prices are based on current fares and also include present fuel and security charges as well as fees for dangerous goods besides all port and clearance charges.
Please regard this as a rough price indication since costs vary depending on destination and size of the box. Multi-stop transports as well as an outbound trip via plane and return trip via ship or vice versa are possible. The weighting of the price for initial / return transport comes to approx. 40/60.
